A forest morning
The order stays the same from day to day. Only the place changes.
Families sign in at the barn door. Boots go on, bags go on the hooks and a teacher says where the day will be.
The group walks to the day's place together, with a teacher at the front and another at the back.
Children choose where to start: a den, a digging place, the garden, a log to balance on. The teachers join in and listen.
Everyone washes up at the portable tap and eats at the log table. Snack is fruit, bread and water.
A story, a song or a sit-spot minute, then a look back at what we found this morning.
Back to the barn room to warm up, change wet socks and wait for pickup.
Tuesday and Thursday
The morning is the same. The afternoon is slower.
Children eat lunch from their own bags at the picnic tables, or in the barn room when it is cold.
Mats, books and soft voices in the barn room. Children who don't rest can look at a book or draw.
Something that takes longer than a morning: baking bread, repotting seedlings or building a bigger den.
A tour takes a morning, so you see how the day runs.
