Frequently asked questions

Who is Redwood Hollow for, and what are the hours?

Children who are 3 or 4 by the first day of the fall session. Forest mornings run from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and the two full days, Tuesday and Thursday, run until 3:00 p.m.

How does a tour work?

Tours are forest mornings, so you walk out with the group and see the day as it happens. You meet a teacher and see the barn room, and children can come along.

What if it rains?

We go out in the rain, in rain gear and boots. Thunder, strong wind and smoky air send us to the barn room.

What should my child wear?

Layers that can get wet and muddy, waterproof boots, a rain jacket and pants, and a dry change of clothes in a bag.

Who is trained in first aid?

Every adult is trained in first aid and CPR, and two adults carry a first aid kit and a phone on every forest day.

What sets tuition?

Your child's age and the days a week they come. We go through the figures with you on the tour.

How is a place held, and how does the waitlist work?

A place is held with registration and the first month. When a program is full you join the waitlist, and we write to families in the order of the list as places open.

Is Redwood Hollow licensed, and what are the adult-to-child numbers?

Redwood Hollow is licensed by California's Community Care Licensing. The license line is at the foot of every page, and each age group has a set number of adults to children.

Do children need to be toilet trained?

Children use the toilet at school on their own, and we help with reminders and spare clothes. Tell us on the tour where your child is, and a teacher will talk through how it works outdoors.

What happens on a hard morning?

Children have hard mornings. A teacher stays with the child and helps them settle in a calm voice, and we call you if it doesn't ease. We talk it over with you at pickup.
