Weather
What we do when the weather turns
We go out in the rain. Some weather sends us to the barn room, or somewhere else on the land.
Rain
Rain gear and boots are the dress code, so a wet morning is an ordinary one. If it comes down hard, we take an hour in the barn room and go back out.
Wind
When it blows, we stay out of the woods and keep to the meadow and the garden, where no limbs can fall. If it gets stronger, we go in.
Thunder
At the first thunder the group walks to the barn room and stays until the sky has been quiet for a good while.
Cold and fog
Wool, a hat and a dry change of socks do most of the work. Children who are cold come in to warm up and go back out when they are ready.
Heat
On hot days we stay in the shade, drink more water and keep the active play to the morning.
Smoky air
When the air is smoky, the day moves to the barn room. We text families before drop-off when we know.

The barn room
Where we come in to
The barn room is the indoor base: a heated room with a long bench, a boot shelf, a low table and a reading corner. We come in to warm up, to eat on a cold day and when the weather says to.

Ask us about a wet day
Come on a rainy morning and see how it goes.
